Keep The Home Fires Burning Safely With Service From Luce’s Chimney & Stove Shop

Posted on March 1, 2014

For more than 30 years, Luce’s Chimney and Stove Shop has been helping customers keep their chimneys clean and safe since John Luce launched his business in 1980 from the back of a ’78 Volkswagen van.

“I was a park ranger for the Toledo Metroparks. I didn’t make much money, and we had six kids,” John recalled. “I borrowed $1,500 from my dad and purchased an August West Chimney Sweeping System. We kept our customers, and our business continued to grow.”

What began as a seasonal chimney sweeping service quickly expanded into sales and installation of wood stoves and, eventually, high-efficiency gas appliances.

“The natural progression was getting into the sales and installation of hearth products because the two go hand in hand,” John added.

Today, Luce’s Chimney and Stove Shop offers complete sweeping and cleaning, restoration, and repair services. The company also offers sales and installation of a wide variety of gas, pellet and wood stoves and inserts as well as gas, electric and wood fireplaces from Xtrordinair, Lopi and other well-respected manufacturers. Grills, smokers and SunSetter awnings are also available.

“We offer sales and installation of many hearth products and complete chimney services that include sweeping, rebuilding, refurbishing, building or installing a new chimney,” John explained. “If there are repairs needed, we can do that. We can tear down a brick chimney and rebuild it or repair it.”

By code, chimneys should be inspected and cleaned annually. When build-up is more than ¼-inch, the chimney should be swept.

“Generally, if you’re using your fireplace on a regular basis it should be swept annually,” John said. “Problems can’t be seen from the ground. We get up there, perform an inspection and report back what we’ve seen.”

The company also provides a video inspection, which offers insight into areas that otherwise couldn’t be viewed.

The cost of a standard cleaning is $179. Luce’s sweeps the chimney while using a dust collector to keep the home’s interior clean.

Watch for Luce’s upcoming spring sales event in May, when all gas stoves, wood stoves, fireplaces, grills and SunSetter awnings will be on sale.

“All Luce’s installers carry two certifications, and we don’t subcontract any of our work,” John added. “And that sets us apart. We’re the authorized dealer for our product lines. If there are ever any issues, you can call us, and we’ll take care of it.”
